Rainbows GB Fundraiser

RCJC fundraising

On Friday June 14 we held a fundraising event for the wonderful Rainbows GB, which Debbie and I are proud to be patrons of.

We wanted to host a relaxed evening featuring the 3 Rainbow Connection Choirs (Juniors, Friends and Singers) and a guest performance from Doncaster Ukulele Group.

We have had quite a few new choir members recently and this was going to be a great opportunity for them to take part in a full length concert as opposed to the much shorter festival type spots.

The concert opened with all the choirs performing 'Make Your Own Kind Of Music' together and this was followed with 3 songs from RC Friends. Not a folder of music in sight for the Friends but a number of G & T's had been spotted:-)

RC Juniors followed with a the 1st ever performance of Daybreak and Thankful, which is also brand new this year.

Ukulele time, with the fab Doncaster Ukulele Group, who entertained the audience with a great mix of songs from the 60's and 70's.

Sue McDermott OBE (from Rainbows GB) thanked all the performers and gave a brief explanation of the great work that the charity does.

Rainbow Connection Singers performed their David Bowie Tribute, which is a great favourite of the choir and audiences. Ella Hudspeth led the group through another new addition Paul McCartney's LIVE & LET DIE.

RC Friends joined to reprise Remembrance which they sang together at the Menin Gate at Ypres last November at the Last Post Ceremony.

The first half drew to a close with the Welsh Wonder Helen Beck leading the group through another favourite, Let The River Run.

The 2nd half of the show again featured every group performing individually and together.

Opening with Xanadu, the 2nd half had a fantastic mix of pieces new and old. First performances of And So It Goes, I Hope You Dance (Friends) and Magical Kingdom (Juniors) and a couple of old favourites brought back into repertoire from RC Singers were Suite From Tommy and Shed A Little Light were very well received.

Old RC favourite This Little Light Of Mine brought proceedings to a close and were are really to have raised a fantastic £1590.88.

Thank you to all involved and a big thank you to Parklands for giving us free use of the room, so every penny taken has gone directly to Rainbows GB.
